Physiotherapists Put on Their Running Shoes for Teenage Cancer

A team of local physiotherapists are raising money for a youth cancer charity by running the Leeds Abbey Dash.

Five members of staff from Griffiths & Hartley, which is part of the Physio Med network and has various clinics across Yorkshire including the Fountain Medical Centre in Morley, Leeds, will run the 10k race organised by Age UK on Sunday, 18th November.

'Team Griffiths & Hartley' is raising money for the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust, the only UK charity which specifically funds medical research into cancer affecting teenagers and young adults.

Darren Griffiths, Director of Griffiths & Hartley said: "Laura Crane was a good friend of mine at school when she sadly passed away. The charity is close to my heart so I'm honoured that Team Griffith & Hartley are able to raise awareness and money for it."

Helen Mervill, Fundraising Manager at the Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust said: "We are hugely grateful to Team Griffiths & Hartley for taking part in the Abbey Dash to raise funds for The Laura Crane Youth Cancer Trust."

"The charity supports all young people with cancer in the local area through the two Leeds hospitals; Leeds General Infirmary and St James's Hospital. It is with the generous support of people like Darren and his team, that the charity is able to continue its fight against cancer in young people."

The Leeds Abbey Dash, now in its 28th year and expecting 8,000 runners, has been voted as one of the top ten 10k races of 2011 by Runner's World. The race will start at the Headrow, Leeds city centre, down to Kirkstall Abbey, and back to Leeds.
